White Sox Unceremoniously Option Jose Rodriguez Again
Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports

As the calendar flipped to September, the Chicago White Sox called up Jose Rodriguez and Luis Patiño to fill their expanded roster spots. But just one day later, the club optioned Rodriguez back to Triple-A Charlotte and recalled Zach Remillard in his place.

This is the second time a Rodriguez stint with the big-league club has come to an unceremonious end. The Sox first promoted Rodriguez on June 19 only for him to log just one inning of game action before heading back to the minors on June 25. The 22-year-old infielder has not recorded an MLB plate appearance to date.

It's a lost season for the White Sox, but young players like Rodriguez were expected to get some run in September. Instead, new general manager Chris Getz has opted to recall 29-year-old Zach Remillard in Rodriguez's place.

Remillard saw an extended stint in Chicago earlier this season and slashed .264/.315/.339 with six doubles, one home run, and 16 RBIs in 133 plate appearances across 40 games. That stint came to an end on Aug. 23 when the Sox optioned him to Triple-A Charlotte, but he will now return to the South Side in a peculiar roster move.
